What about us poets that live hand-to-mouth? $25 in the Bush Depression is real money!

Hi D.O., Glen and Jean -

We appreciate how much money $25 is for poets anytime. We started the contest as a way to help support Split This Rock Poetry Festival: Poems of Provocation & Witness. So the fee acts as a contribution to the group's efforts - the judge receives no honorarium and we're all working for free or next to nothing. We are very grateful for all the support Split This Rock has received.

If you couldn't submit to the contest there are lots of other ways to be involved - the festival itself in March 2010 will have a modest registration fee and lots of scholarships will be available. Please apply! (Watch the website for guidelines.) Split This Rock strives to be accessible to everyone.

Thanks for your comments.
