Between now and the Split This Rock Poetry Festival, Blog this Rock will feature commentary, interviews, and conversation by and with poets and activists about the urgent need for a poetry of witness and resistance in our nation and world. We hope Blog this Rock will whet your appetite for four days of readings, performance, workshops, debate, and connection to a community of kindred spirits.
Keep an eye out for our first feature by Rose Berger and Joe Ross about the powerful exhibit of artist Fernando Botero’s works on the torture and abuse at Abu Ghraib. Plan now to attend the November 10 reading at American University, which will include the launch of a chapbook featuring poems inspired by the Botero exhibit.
And get Split this Rock on your calendars – March 20-23 in the heart of the District of Columbia, a city with a thriving poetry community that bears witness against the injustice and rot at the core of “official” Washington.
I’m your blog host, and welcome your ideas and suggestions for ways to make this a lively space for poets, poetry lovers, and seekers of justice.
